Cisco Anyconnect Not Installing



The VPN package is greyed out (as shown in the screen capture below) due to incomplete/unclean installation of VPN client.

To resolve the issue, please follow the steps below to remove the Cisco Anyconnect VPN client from your Mac OS X and re-install it again.

I am having problems with installing the Cisco Anyconnect Client version 4.1.04011-web-deploy-k9 on Windows 10. Before upgrading to Windows 10 I uninstalled (add / remove programs) the old client. After upgrade to Windows 10 I want to install the supported version of Anyconnect but this failed. The virtual adapter of Cisco VPN is an internal tool used to get connected to a VPN gateway. As the Cisco VPN client is not compatible with Windows 10, its virtual adapter is failed to be enabled when it tries to be connected to a VPN gateway. So we have to customize this virtual adapter to make Cisco VPN client working in windows 10. User attempts to install Cisco AnyConnect and fails near the end of install. After a few minute fails with the error: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

  1. From Finder menu, choose Go and then click Utilities.
  2. Click Terminal.app App.
  3. Type the following at the command prompt, press Enter and input the password of your Mac user account.

    sudo pkgutil --forget com.cisco.pkg.anyconnect.vpn

Steps for solution:
First, uninstall any versions of Cisco AnyConnect that are currently installed. Then edit the registry key:

  1. Click Start and type “regedit” in the box.
  2. A dialogue box will pop up with the following text: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Click Yes.
  3. Browse to the following location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInstallerProducts
  4. Within the Products folder, locate and delete the registry key which contains product information for Cisco AnyConnect.
    • Each registry key within Products is an alphanumeric string. Select the first key and look on the right side for ProductName REG_SZ Cisco AnyConnect. Go through each key in the Products folder until you find the one for Cisco AnyConnect.
    • For example, the registry key for Cisco AnyConnect is named {6A851B6266619384C8D3CC2085396FF6}
    • Your version of Cisco AnyConnect might have a different name for this registry key.
    • We recommend making a backup of this registry key before deleting it.
  5. Close the registry editor.
  6. Install Cisco AnyConnect.
